{table} VME {table} The current VME system is a __MVME2700__ from Motorola and an __I/O translation module 761__ ([../download/mvme2700_doc?action=download|see documentations]). This system is based on PPC (266 MHz) and 128 MB and supports [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI|SCSI] hard-drive. 1.1 Compagny - http://www.vmetro.com/ - http://www.ecrin.com - http://www.sbs.com/ 1.1 PPCBug A few commands to check the VME status: * __he__ : help * __env__ : the command allows you to view and congigure all PPCBug operational parameter (for instance to boot on hard disk) * __ time__ : set time to the vme (it has to be set to install linux) * __ioi__ : the command inquiries for all the possible attached device (see also iot, iop) * __niot__: the command allows to set-up a new network configuration on the debugger : IP address, Network Mask, Gateway, Protocol (TFPT, BOOTP), filename... * __nbo__ : the command loads an operating system or control program from the server into memory and gives control to it (execution) {table} History {table} 1 February 2007 - Installation of : internal cable, SCSI-2 hard-drive (1.2GB - Quantum Fireball), external connector, and a termination with [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI_connector|SCSI-1 connector] (Centronics - 50 pin) - Installation of [debian|Debian] Sarge for [http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/inst/prep|PReP] support 1 August 2007 - Installation of an external hard-drive (80 MB - ) with a SCSI 2 card (PCI Mezanine Card - ), but it is not bootable. - Even though it should in principle work SCSI-2/3 connector (68 pin), no hard-drive can be recognized by linux driver () - Fake clone of the internal hard-drive (1.2GB - Quantum Fireball) to a another SCSI-2 Hard-drive(9GB - Seagate) with SCSI-1 connector. 1 February 2008 - Attempt to flash the PPC firwmare in order to boot with the SCSI-2/3 from the PCI Mezzanine Card. No success ....:'( - Real clone of the internal hard-drive (1.2GB - Quantum Fireball) to another (9GB - IBM) with SCSI-1 connector * Hard copy of the hard-drive {code} dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb {code} * Convert home partition from ext3 to ext2 * Use of [http://www.knoppix.org/|Knoppix] to extend the home partition with [http://gparted.sourceforge.net/|GParted] * Convert home partition from ext2 to ext3 1 April 2008 - Realization of clone hard-drives
